The National Numismatic Museum is an interesting gallery dedicated to currency of Malaysia. Located in the Menara Maybank along Jalan Tun Perak, the museum was established by Maybank in 1988. On 9 Jan' 1988, the museum was formally opened by Tan Sri Dato Jaafar Hussein-the then Bank Negara Governor. It addresses a striking collection of coins and notes from the colonial era up to the present day, including coinage from Asean.

In fact, it also acts as a center for research into Malaysia's currency history. Run and owned by the Maybank, the Museum holds the distinction of having the largest coin and notes collection in Malaysia. Some of the collections displayed at the museum include currencies dating back to the times of the Melaka Sultanate and currencies utilized during the occupation of Portuguese, British, and Japanese in Malaya.

Besides, the other collected works comprise of miniature cannons and foreign currencies, as well. Though this museum is not as extensive as Bank Negara Money Museum, it certainly has an impressive collection of currencies. For scholars who are keen to study the history of currency, this museum is just right place to gather information in the respective area.
